A board game box has an odd job compared to most packaging: it has to hold several different kinds of thing at once, and keep them organised through years of being opened and closed.
Count the pieces first, then pick the insert
A folded board that needs to lie flat wants a shallow, load-bearing base rather than a deep box that leaves it loose. Small tokens and dice scatter and rattle unless they sit in their own separated compartments, while a card deck usually just needs a snug-fit tray rather than full division. Card, paperboard and foam can each be die-cut into any of these layouts, or combined in one box: a tray section for the deck, a compartmented section for the pieces, built to whatever mix that particular game actually ships with.
The same starting point works for box style, too, better than browsing a style list on its own. A travel-sized game with a handful of pieces suits a simple tuck-end or standard lid-and-base box. A larger game with a board, several trays and a full rulebook usually needs a two-piece rigid or drawer-style format instead, since that’s what carries the extra weight and still closes flush.
Printing your own artwork, including for a licensed game
Offset, digital and screen printing are all available, alongside foiling, raised or recessed emboss work, and a matte or gloss laminate finish. Where the game itself is built on a licensed property, we work from the artwork the publisher provides, and confirming that artwork is cleared to print stays the publisher’s responsibility rather than a check we carry out ourselves. Pantone references and CMYK values can be used to manage colour consistency, subject to normal variation caused by the chosen board, ink, coating and production method.

The first iterations the boxes were sized wrong, but once we got it figured out and I got the art I requested some samples before moving forward. They printed off some samples, and they were great minus a slight adjustment to the perforation. They made the adjustment and got the final order out and so far I am pleased with the quality, especially for the price. The only thing that would have bumped this up to a 5 star review would have been a little bit quicker overall experience, part of which was my fault.

Can the box account for an expansion I'll add later?
It can, but it has to be planned for at the specification stage rather than assumed. An insert cut tightly to the base game's own component count generally won't have spare room once an expansion's extra pieces are added, so flag the expansion upfront if there's a realistic chance it's coming.
Does a more complex insert cost noticeably more than a simple one?
Generally yes, since more cavities and tighter tolerances mean more die-cutting work. A single card tray costs less to produce than a multi-section layout separating several component types, so it's worth weighing how much organisation the game actually needs against the extra production step.
Is board game packaging recyclable?
An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. Final recyclability depends on the full material and finishing specification and the facilities available locally.
