A blueberry shrugs off the weight of a handful on top of it. A ripe raspberry gives way under a few of its neighbours. Most of what makes a good berry punnet follows from that difference.
How deep the punnet should be
The fruit at the bottom carries everything above it, so depth is really a question of how many layers the berry can take. Raspberries usually go into a shallow punnet, only a layer or two deep. Strawberries manage a little more. Blueberries are firm enough for a deeper fill. A farm selling all three can order a shallow and a deeper version rather than one punnet that is wrong for two of them.
Juice on the card
A crushed or overripe berry leaks juice, and plain card soaks it up and softens where it collects, usually in the base. For fruit sold the day it is picked that may never matter. For punnets that sit in a chiller or travel to shops, a construction with a moisture barrier is available depending on the specification. Food-contact material suitability is confirmed for the specific material before production. A barrier bonded to the board also changes how the punnet can be recycled, so it is worth deciding on for the fruit you sell, not by default.
Vents and the tray around them
An open punnet takes air in from the top. Once another layer of punnets is stacked on it, that top is covered and air reaches the fruit through the walls, which is why berry punnets often carry cut-outs, star-shaped, slits or arches low in the side. More open wall leaves less board to carry the load, the balance struck for a far heavier crop in Potato Boxes Scotland. Punnets are often set into an outer tray to travel, and Cardboard Produce Trays is the tray for that.
Picked straight into the punnet
On a pick-your-own farm the customer fills the punnet in the field and carries it back full, often by the rim. A basket with a folded rim gives a firmer edge to hold than a plain cut edge.
Your name on it
The farm or shop name and logo can be printed on the outer walls, offset, digitally or by screen, chosen for the artwork and the run.

Our experience with ACP UK was overall good. They were able to work with our extremely tight timeline and were very responsive and communicative. I will say that there were some things about our final product that we were not happy with, such as creasing of the graphics and images were not full bleed on the cover of our boxes like they were supposed to be. ACP UK was not able to fix the problems on the boxes due to our tight timeline, so we ended up with a product that were were a little less than satisfied with. They offered us a discount on our next order. I think their pricing overall was fair and competitive. We may use them on project in the future again if we are able to see an image of the boxes before they go into full production like we were told that they would do last time.
