This page covers a banana box you can actually buy: new, manufactured stock built for shipping bananas and other produce in bulk. It is not the box a supermarket gives away for free once it has already carried its load, the kind people collect for a house move. That version has already been used and isn’t something anyone manufactures or sells; every genuine competitor on this term sells the commercial fruit-shipping box covered here instead.
Ripening is what the ventilation is actually for
Bananas keep ripening after they’re picked, releasing ethylene gas as they do. Seal that gas into a closed box and ripening speeds up; let it escape and it slows down. That’s the real reason a produce box needs proper ventilation, rather than it being a generic feature added for looks. Die-cut vents on the sides and lid are available, sized and placed for airflow through a stacked load rather than a single box sitting on its own.
Built for stacking and bulk handling
A produce box has to carry real weight and stack under more boxes on a pallet without the sides bowing or the corners crushing. No fixed load-capacity figure is published for this box. The right number comes from the board grade and structure specified for your actual product and stacking height. Reinforced corners and a double-layered base are available where the load calls for it. A handle or grip slot can be die-cut in for manual lifting, separate from the ventilation holes.
Three ways to get the box
Plain, unprinted stock suits a box that spends its life on a pallet in a warehouse, never seen by a shopper. A ready-made design sits between that and a full print, giving some branding without the design work. Sizes and figures for either aren’t fixed in advance; they’re settled once a real order is on the table. A custom-printed run makes more sense once the box itself is doing some selling, not just carrying weight. That route runs to offset, digital or screen printing, with the same finish set as the rest of the range: matt and gloss lamination, foil stamping, embossing, debossing and spot UV, chosen against what the specification calls for.
Orders start from 100 units. This minimum resets separately for each design. Design support is free. A digital 3D mock-up is free. There are no setup fees. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free.
When this is not the right box
Food-contact material suitability is confirmed for the specific material before production. Is this the free box supermarkets give away for house moves?
No. For the reused version, a supermarket is who to ask, not a packaging supplier, since a used box isn't something anyone manufactures or holds as stock. What's on this page is bought new and built for shipping produce in the first place, rather than repurposed afterwards.
Do the ventilation holes let dust or moisture in during transport?
They're sized and placed for airflow, not left open at random, so they're not designed as a route for contamination. Exactly how much protection a specific journey and storage environment calls for is a specification question, confirmed at quote rather than assumed.
How much weight can one box hold?
That comes down to the board grade and structure chosen for your product and how high they'll be stacked, so there's no single figure to quote here. Give us the weight and the stacking height, and the board gets specified around that.
What is the minimum order for Empty Banana Boxes?
Orders start from 100 units. Each design carries its own separate minimum. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval.
Are these boxes recyclable?
An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. Taken as blank, uncoated stock, this box sits on the easier side of that comparison; a laminated or foiled finish moves it the other way. Final recyclability depends on the full material and finishing specification and the facilities available locally.
