A slice box takes its shape from a pie that has not been cut yet. Get the box right and every slice from that pie drops into it neatly; get it wrong and the slices slide about or get squeezed at the sides.
Sizing the wedge from the pie
Measure the baked pie across its widest point, which on a pie with sloping sides is the top. The angle at the point of the box comes from how many portions the pie is cut into, and the more portions, the narrower each wedge. The length is less obvious. A slice’s crust end is curved, but the back wall of a wedge box is flat, so the sides have to run a little further than centre to edge for the crust to clear the back wall. The wider the slice, the more the crust bulges, so a pie cut into a few big portions needs noticeably longer sides than its own half-width. A box made for one cut will not suit a slice cut another way, so the cut is worth settling before the boxes are made. The height follows the pie’s depth, with room above the top crust or any cream. Getting the slice in and out
A slice goes in from above and sits flat, crust against the wide end and point in the narrow one, and the lid folds down over it. Laying the slice on a square of greaseproof paper gives the customer something to lift it out by, so a cut face is not dragged along the wall. Greaseproof sheets can be supplied on request.
Pastry and fillings
Pastry is buttery, and a fruit or custard filling can weep from the cut faces onto the base. Grease-resistant board is available depending on the specification. A coated face can improve its grease resistance. Where a filling is likely to weep, a moisture barrier construction is available too, again depending on the specification. Food-contact material suitability is confirmed for the specific material before production.
Board and print
The boxes can be made in natural kraft or white board. A wedge can also be printed to look like a slice of pie itself, with a crust edge and a swirl of cream, and used to hold small gifts or sweets. The design wraps every face of the wedge, so it is laid out on the flat sheet before the box is folded. Printing can be offset, digital or screen, whichever suits the specification and the order quantity.

Uncoated Unbleached Kraft

The first iterations the boxes were sized wrong, but once we got it figured out and I got the art I requested some samples before moving forward. They made the adjustment and got the final order out and so far I am pleased with the quality, especially for the price. What is the minimum order for pie slice boxes?
Orders start from 100 units.
Are pie slice boxes recyclable?
An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. Final recyclability depends on the full material and finishing specification and the facilities available locally. We can explain the general recyclability considerations of the selected material and finishing options, so you can make accurate claims on your own packaging.
What if none of the standard sizes fit my pie?
Then the box is die-cut to your pie's own measurements instead of forced to the nearest stock size. Describe the pie, or send one in to measure, and the dieline is built around it.
Can I get a window so customers see the pie?
Yes. It suits a counter or a gift, where the pie sells itself before the lid is lifted. The mini pie box comes with a window as standard; on other sizes it is added at quote stage, and it does affect cost and recycling.
Do you print small runs, or only bulk?
Small runs are the norm here, not the exception. Orders start from 100 units. A run can be a single logo or a full custom design, whichever the budget suits.
Are these boxes food-safe and grease-proof?
Food-contact material suitability is confirmed for the specific material before production. The right surface for a buttery or wet-filled pie is chosen at the specification stage. We do not attach a grease or barrier rating to a box. Confirming any information printed on the pack remains your business's responsibility, or that of its regulatory adviser.

Orders start from 100 units. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free.
