A lift-off lid is one closure choice among several on a rigid box, but a lift-off lid itself isn’t one fixed shape. Its own coverage, how much of the base it takes in before it stops, is a separate decision again.
How much of the base the lid should cover
A shallow lid caps just the top edge of the base, so most of the box’s height and its printed sides stay visible the moment the lid lifts clear. A lid that comes further down, most of the way over the base’s own sides, covers more of that printed surface until the lid is off. It also holds the two halves together more securely in transit, since more of the base is gripped rather than just capped. Neither is more “correct.” A shallow lid suits a box where the sides carry a design meant to be seen even before the lid is fully removed, or where the box is opened and closed often. A deeper lid suits a box that travels more, or one held closed, in a stockroom, in transit, in a customer’s bag, since more surface is gripped and less can work loose.
One choice on an otherwise fixed spec
Nothing about the finish, the print or the standard order terms depends on how deep the lid is cut. It’s a single line added to the same specification, agreed with the design, never a reason to treat the box as a different product.
The commitments that don’t change with lid depth
Pantone references and CMYK values can be used to manage colour consistency, subject to normal variation caused by the chosen board, ink, coating and production method. Orders start from 100 units. Design support is free. A digital 3D mock-up is free. There are no setup fees. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free.

What is the minimum order for Rigid Boxes With Lids?
Orders start from 100 units. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval.
Does a deeper lid cost more or take longer to produce?
It's raised alongside the standard order details at the quote stage, one line on the same specification rather than its own priced extra.
Can the lid and base be printed differently from each other?
Yes. The lid and the base are separate pieces, so each can carry its own part of the design, useful where the lid is meant to read as a complete image on its own before it comes off.
Does a shallow lid need anything to stop it lifting off in transit?
Sometimes. Where a shallow lid is chosen for a box that also needs to travel securely, a fitted insert holding the product still inside reduces how much movement can work the lid loose. That's a detail confirmed when the specification is drawn up, not left to guesswork.
Are Rigid Boxes With Lids recyclable?
An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. Final recyclability depends on the full material and finishing specification and the facilities available locally.
