A belly band changes what a box says without changing the box. That is most useful when you sell several versions of one product, such as different flavours, scents or sizes, and would rather not hold a separately printed box for each.
One box for the whole range
The photographs on this page show how this works: two identical plain white boxes, told apart only by their bands, one rose-red for a wildberry variant and one kraft-coloured for oat and honey. Adding a variant later means printing one more band, and the plain boxes you already hold stay as they are. Each band with its own artwork is its own design. Orders start from 100 units. That minimum applies to each design and is not split across several, so every variant’s band needs at least 100 of its own.
Design the bands as a set
Bands in a range sit next to each other on a shelf or in a delivery, so they work best designed as a family. Keep the logo, layout and band width the same on every one, and change only the variant name and its colour. A customer can then find their variant by colour at a glance, and the range still looks like one brand. Put the band in the same place on every box too, so the colours line up when boxes are stacked.
Bands for one range are often printed at different times, as each variant runs low. Giving each variant a Pantone reference helps keep a reordered band looking like the last one. Pantone references and CMYK values can be used to manage colour consistency, subject to normal variation caused by the chosen board, ink, coating and production method. Bands are printed in offset, digital or screen, with the method matched to the run and the design.
Once the band comes off
The band is usually the first thing a customer takes off, and it often goes straight in the bin. On a range where every box is identical, that means the band cannot be the only place that says which variant is inside. Whatever the customer needs after opening, from which flavour it is to how to use the product, belongs on the product itself, on its own label or on a card in the box. The band suits the brand, the variant name for the shelf and a first message; one of the photographs on this page shows a band carrying a short thank-you note. The inside face of a band can be printed too, depending on the specification, so a message appears as the band is slid off.
Information the product is required to display should not rely on the band alone. All Custom Packaging can help organise the available print space, but the brand or its regulatory adviser remains responsible for confirming the accuracy and completeness of the required product information.
Design support is free. A digital 3D mock-up is free. There are no setup fees. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free.

I was assisted by Frank. Overall I had a satisfactory experience, and in the end my boxes turned out really nice. The stock is nice, and Frank was really helpful getting them where they needed to be. The first iterations the boxes were sized wrong, but once we got it figured out and I got the art I requested some samples before moving forward. They printed off some samples, and they were great minus a slight adjustment to the perforation. They made the adjustment and got the final order out and so far I am pleased with the quality, especially for the price. The only thing that would have bumped this up to a 5 star review would have been a little bit quicker overall experience, part of which was my fault.

What is the minimum order for Belly Band Packaging?
Orders start from 100 units.
Does a band only go around a box?
No. A band can also go around a round tub or pot. Among the bands pictured above is one formed into a closed ring, the shape it takes around a container like that.
Is belly band packaging recyclable?
An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. Final recyclability depends on the full material and finishing specification and the facilities available locally. We can explain the general recyclability considerations of the selected material and finishing options, so you can make accurate claims on your own packaging.
Belly band or a full sleeve, which do I need?
If the brand needs to do real work on the shelf, the fuller sleeve gives the print area for it; if it is a finishing touch that just secures the box, a belly band is enough. The band uses less material, so it is the cheaper of the two.
Do I supply the plain box, or do you?
Either works. A sleeve can wrap stock you already hold, or we can make the plain box or tray to go with it so the two fit together. Only the wrap is printed, which is what keeps a sleeve below the cost of a fully printed box.
Can a sleeve fit a box I already have?
Yes. A sleeve is sized to the box it wraps, so send the box's dimensions or a sample, and it is cut to slide on cleanly and stay put without a struggle to fit.
Are the food sleeves safe against food?
Food-contact material suitability is confirmed for the specific material before production. Confirming any information printed on the sleeve remains your business's responsibility, or that of its adviser.
