A main, a rice, a side and something in a smaller pot go into one bag, stacked by whoever packed them and carried by somebody with other things on their mind. That bag is what a Chinese kitchen actually sends out.
The order is the unit, not the box
Suppliers price a container. Nobody sells one container to a Chinese takeaway.
What a kitchen actually buys is a working range: something deep for a saucy main, something wider and shallower for rice, something small for a side or a dip. Each is a different weight once filled, which is where the board decision starts. The formats those sizes can take are the same ones on the rest of Custom Food Boxes; what changes here is that you are choosing several at once. Those get bought together, stored together on the same shelf, and pulled in different combinations all evening on a Friday. So the decisions worth making are about the range, and the individual box follows from them.
Two of those decisions cost real money if they go wrong. How many sizes to carry is the first. Too few and the kitchen overfills one container and half-fills another, which wastes board on every order and looks careless on the one that matters. Too many and the shelf fills with slow-moving stock and staff pause to choose. Whether the sizes stack is the second, and it is the one nobody mentions. Containers with a common footprint sit squarely in a bag whatever combination goes in it. Containers designed independently of each other do not, and the order arrives leaning.
Branding has the same shape of problem. Artwork that works beautifully on a deep container often has nowhere to go on a shallow one, so a range designed as a range needs the mark placed where every size can carry it. Get that placement right once and every size in the range inherits it.
What the bag does on the way
The board grade is chosen around the weight of the filled product and how far it travels. A heavier board resists crushing better, and the right grade depends on the product and the route. That reasoning does unusually real work here, because the bottom container in a stack of four carries the other three for the length of a delivery.
Leak resistance is promised almost everywhere on this product, and heat retention often alongside it. No leak, seal or thermal performance is confirmed for any board on this page. None of it is claimed here. A sauce-heavy dish in paperboard is a specification question, settled before the order and against the dish that will actually go in it. No product page can settle it for you. A leak-proof promise is only worth something when it comes with the material, the coating and the test behind it, so ask for those three before you rely on it.

When this is not the right box
Two honest cases, and one of them costs us the sale.
Most UK Chinese takeaways run foil containers for wet dishes and have done for decades, because foil crimps to a lid and paperboard does not. Where a dish is genuinely liquid, that remains the sensible default, and printed board earns its place on the drier items, the sides, the rice and the bag that carries them. A range that mixes the two honestly beats one that pretends board does everything.
The other case is narrower. Where the format you actually want is the fold-top pail, which closes on its own locking flaps with no separate lid, that mechanism belongs to Personalised Noodle Boxes and is worked through there. An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. Final recyclability depends on the full material and finishing specification and the facilities available locally. On a container that arrives holding sauce, that is worth knowing early, because what a customer can actually recycle at home depends on what the food left behind as much as on the board.

Our experience with ACP UK was overall good. They were able to work with our extremely tight timeline and were very responsive and communicative. I will say that there were some things about our final product that we were not happy with, such as creasing of the graphics and images were not full bleed on the cover of our boxes like they were supposed to be. ACP UK was not able to fix the problems on the boxes due to our tight timeline, so we ended up with a product that were were a little less than satisfied with. They offered us a discount on our next order. I think their pricing overall was fair and competitive. We may use them on project in the future again if we are able to see an image of the boxes before they go into full production like we were told that they would do last time.

How many different sizes should we carry?
Fewer than the range you will be offered. Start from the dishes that move most, count how many genuinely different volumes sit among them, and buy that many. Add another only when a real portion is being forced into the wrong container often enough that staff mention it.
What coatings can go on them?
Aqueous coating, varnish, soft touch and anti-scratch are all published options, and a silk or gloss lamination if the look calls for it. Anti-scratch reduces visible scuffing and fingerprints; it does not prevent damage, and nobody should tell you it does. Which one suits depends on the dish and the print, and it is a conversation worth having before artwork rather than after.
Can different sizes in one range use different board?
Yes, and it is often the sensible call. The container carrying a heavy saucy main and the one holding a dry side are not under the same load, so specifying them identically means over-buying on one or under-specifying the other. It does mean separate runs, which is worth knowing when you plan the first order.
What is the minimum order for Chinese food boxes?
Orders start from 100 units. Design support is free. A digital 3D mock-up is free. Use it on the whole set at once, since these sizes have to sit together on a shelf and in a bag.
