Most suppliers ranking for commercial food packaging sell stock: plain boxes, held in a warehouse, out the door the next day. That is a genuinely good answer to a genuinely common problem. It is a different product from this one.
Where stock packaging stops and custom starts
A stock wholesaler wins on two things, and it is worth being clear about both. Speed, because the boxes already exist. Unit cost, because they were made in enormous runs for everybody. What a stock supplier cannot do is put your name on the box, or build it to a size your product actually needs instead of the nearest standard one it happens to fit.
Size is the quieter half of that. A stock range comes in fixed dimensions, so a product either rattles around in a box that is slightly too big or gets forced into one slightly too small. Packaging cut to the product itself holds it with less void, less filler and less wasted board, and that shows up across a commercial run rather than on any single box.
That is the whole trade. If the packaging is a cost line and nobody needs to know where the food came from, buy stock. If the box is the only thing a delivery customer sees before they open the bag, it is doing brand work, and stock packaging cannot do brand work. Ordering across a menu, not for one product
Commercial orders rarely involve one box. A menu usually needs several sizes, sometimes several structures, and they need to look like they belong together: the same board, the same print treatment, the same colour handling across all of them. Pantone references and CMYK values can be used to manage colour consistency, subject to normal variation caused by the chosen board, ink, coating and production method. Specifying the range together, instead of item by item across separate orders, is what keeps that consistency intact.
Doing it that way also sets a reference. Once the board, the finish and the colour build are approved across the set, that approved specification is what every later size and every reorder is matched to, so the range does not drift apart as it grows. Orders start from 100 units. That floor matters most to a smaller operation, a single site testing branded packaging before committing further, since the usual commercial minimum elsewhere sits considerably higher.
Planning a reorder around the build time
Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. Design support is free. A digital 3D mock-up is free. UK delivery is free. There are no setup fees.
Custom packaging is ordered against next month’s stock rather than this week’s gap, which is the practical change for a business used to next-day deliveries. The build window is predictable once it is known, so the usual approach is to hold a buffer sized to the reorder cycle and trigger the next run before that buffer runs down. Once the specification and artwork are approved, repeat runs work from the same approved setup, so a later cycle is a reorder instead of a fresh proofing round.
Food-contact material suitability is confirmed for the specific material before production. All Custom Packaging can help organise the available print space, but the brand or its regulatory adviser remains responsible for confirming the accuracy and completeness of the required product information.

The first iterations the boxes were sized wrong, but once we got it figured out and I got the art I requested some samples before moving forward. They printed off some samples, and they were great minus a slight adjustment to the perforation. They made the adjustment and got the final order out and so far I am pleased with the quality, especially for the price. Is this cheaper than buying stock packaging from a wholesaler?
Per unit, usually not. Stock is produced in vast runs and sold from a warehouse. What you get instead is packaging carrying your own brand, built to your product's dimensions.
What if I need packaging this week?
Buy stock for the immediate gap and start the custom order alongside it. The first branded run then lands for the following cycle, and the timing problem only happens once.
Can I reorder just one item from the set later?
Yes. Each approved size can be reordered on its own from the same specification, so a single line is topped up without redoing the whole range.
Does the price per box improve at higher quantities?
Quantity is one of the things a quote is built around, alongside structure, material and finish. The figures come back on the quote rather than from a published table.
What is the minimum order for commercial food packaging?
Orders start from 100 units. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free.
