A leg, a thigh, a breast and a wing are not the same size or shape, and neither is a single piece next to a family-size order meant to be shared. Those two kinds of variation, piece to piece and order to order, are what actually shape this spec, more than grease or crispiness on their own.
Sizing around pieces that aren’t uniform
A box built for a uniform item leaves a bone-in leg rattling loose or a large breast fillet pressing against the lid. Fried chicken pieces vary enough in size and shape, even within one order, that the box needs to be specified around what’s actually going in rather than a generic footprint. Tell us the mix, mostly wings, a bone-in variety, boneless fillets, and sizing follows from that.
A box for one order, a bucket for a shared one
A standard flat carton suits a single serving or a small handful of pieces, generally two to four, picked up and eaten shortly after. A bucket, taller and usually carried by a handle, suits a larger, family-size or shared order, upwards of six or eight pieces, that needs to travel upright without pieces shifting or spilling over the top. Which one you need depends mainly on the order size. A built-in carry handle isn’t a confirmed standard specification yet. It’s worth raising directly if a bucket-and-handle format is what you need.
Bone-in changes more than the weight
A bone-in piece carries a sharper, more irregular edge than a boneless fillet, and it’s usually heavier for its size too. Neither is a problem for a properly specified box, but it’s worth telling us which you’re packing: a spec built around fillets alone may not hold up as well under a bone-in order, and the reverse is also true.
What the box handles, and what stays outside its job
The chicken sits in direct contact with the board, the same as any hot food carton. Food-contact material suitability is confirmed for the specific material before production. Allergen and nutritional labelling stays your business’s responsibility.
Design support is free. A digital 3D mock-up is free, the clearest way to check a box’s depth against your actual pieces, or confirm a handle allowance if a bucket format is what your order needs, before a run is committed. Orders start from 100 units. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free. There are no setup fees.
An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. Whether a used box or bucket qualifies afterwards depends on your local facility’s own rules for grease-marked board, and heavily soiled packaging is often better placed in general waste than paper recycling.

I will say that there were some things about our final product that we were not happy with, such as creasing of the graphics and images were not full bleed on the cover of our boxes like they were supposed to be. ACP UK was not able to fix the problems on the boxes due to our tight timeline, so we ended up with a product that were were a little less than satisfied with. Thomas was helpful and knowledgeable and very accommodating in changing design details, always responding quickly with a new version to review. Thomas is very eager to help make sure your packaging is right for you. Sometimes a little too eager chasing for decisions but at least you know someone is handling your enquiry and its not sitting on the bottom of a pile being ignored as I've had experience of elsewhere.
Product takes about 3 weeks to be delivered so can't comment on actual product as yet.

Do I need a box or a bucket?
Depends on the order size. A standard box suits a single serving or a small handful of pieces. A bucket, usually with a handle, suits a larger, shared or family-size order that needs to travel upright. Tell us roughly how many pieces per order and we can point you to the right one.
Does the box need to fit bone-in pieces or fillets differently?
Yes, worth flagging either way. Bone-in pieces are typically heavier and more irregularly shaped than boneless fillets, so a spec built around one doesn't always suit the other well. Tell us which you're packing, or if it's a mix.
Is a carry handle included on the bucket format?
Not as a confirmed standard specification, no. Say so directly at quote stage if a handle matters to your order. A bucket format doesn't automatically include one.
Will grease come through the box?
