A hot dog doesn’t get eaten out of a closed box; it gets eaten straight from an open tray, usually standing up, usually within a minute or two of being handed over. That single fact shapes almost everything about this format.
Open on purpose
No lid means nothing to fumble with mid-queue and nothing standing between the food and the person eating it. The trade-off is real and worth naming plainly: an open tray doesn’t contain a genuine spill the way a closed box does, so it suits food that gets eaten quickly and close to where it’s served, not something travelling far or sitting for a while first. Fluted or open-ended construction, the standard build for this shape, holds its form under a filled hot dog’s weight without needing a lid to keep it that way.
Sized to the food, not a general footprint
A hot dog tray runs longer and narrower than most food packaging in this range. Across the market, that typically works out to somewhere between about 7 and 10-plus inches, though the exact length gets specified to what you’re actually packing rather than picked from a fixed list. A single hot dog needs a different length to a foot-long, and a loaded tray, chilli, cheese, extra toppings, sits differently to a plain one. What condiments actually do to an open tray
Mustard, ketchup and chilli sit in direct contact with the board in an open tray, more directly than in most closed formats. A grease and moisture-resistant coating is the right specification for that, not the kraft base on its own. Direct food contact, and what that means
Board and coating can be selected to suit direct or indirect food contact depending on the specification. Food-contact material suitability is confirmed for the specific material before production. Allergen and nutritional labelling stays your business’s responsibility.
Specifying the tray
Orders start from 100 units. Design support is free. It covers fitting your artwork to a long, narrow format without anything getting lost in the fold. A digital 3D mock-up is free. It’s the easiest way to check the tray actually holds a loaded hot dog properly before the run is committed. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free. There are no setup fees. An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. A grease-resistant coating, close to essential for this format given direct condiment contact, can make the board harder for some facilities to recycle as standard paper waste, so check what your local collection accepts.

Our experience with ACP UK was overall good. They were able to work with our extremely tight timeline and were very responsive and communicative. I will say that there were some things about our final product that we were not happy with, such as creasing of the graphics and images were not full bleed on the cover of our boxes like they were supposed to be. ACP UK was not able to fix the problems on the boxes due to our tight timeline, so we ended up with a product that were were a little less than satisfied with. They offered us a discount on our next order. I think their pricing overall was fair and competitive. We may use them on project in the future again if we are able to see an image of the boxes before they go into full production like we were told that they would do last time.

Why doesn't this tray have a lid?
By design. Hot dogs are usually eaten within minutes of being served, often on the move, and a lid gets in the way more than it helps. If your order is genuinely about delivery or catering over any real distance, a closed format is worth asking about instead of this one.
What size do I need?
Depends what's going in. A single plain hot dog needs less length than a loaded foot-long with extra toppings. Give us a rough idea of what you're serving and the tray gets sized to fit properly.
Will grease or sauce soak through the tray?
Not with the right coating specified. Mustard, ketchup and chilli sit in direct contact with the board here more than in most closed formats, so it's worth confirming a grease and moisture-resistant coating directly, since it isn't automatically standard.
What is the minimum order for kraft hot dog trays?
Orders start from 100 units. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free.
Is this the same as a general hot dog tray, not specifically kraft?
The shape's the same; the material is the difference. This page is specifically about the kraft version. Hot Dog Trays covers the same open format in other materials.
Can I get this tray oven-safe or heat-resistant?
Not as a confirmed standard specification, no. If that's a genuine requirement for how you're serving, say so directly rather than assuming a standard kraft tray covers it.
