Chicken and rice is a portion before it is a product. Somebody weighed the rice, decided how much chicken sits on top, and priced the dish around both. The box either fits that portion or the portion quietly changes to fit the box.
The trade already has a size for this
Ask a stock supplier for a meal box and they will ask you which number.
One stock supplier’s meal-box range runs No.1, No.1A, No.2, No.3, No.5 and No.8. These are not that wholesaler’s product codes. No.1 turns up under the same name at another supplier with no reason to coordinate, which is what makes the numbering trade vocabulary and not a catalogue. A kitchen portions to it, staff reorder by it, and when a delivery fails on a Tuesday there is something to ask another supplier for by name. Check the actual volume before you rely on it, because a shared name is not a guaranteed shared measurement.
Every custom manufacturer on this term offers “all custom sizes and shapes” and none of them mentions that. A custom dimension is a real capability, and here it is usually the wrong thing to spend it on. Change the internal volume and you change the portion. The portion is the recipe, the food cost and the price on the menu. A box slightly bigger than the one your kitchen has been scooping into for years is a box that quietly costs you food on every order.
There is a second cost that only shows up later. A custom dimension needs its own die, and a die lives with one manufacturer. If a run is late or a price moves, a standard capacity means somebody else’s stock box gets you through the week. A bespoke one means it does not.
So the useful order of decisions is: settle the capacity against what the kitchen already runs, then spend the customisation on the print, where it does the work a plain box cannot.
A box that gets eaten out of
This one is unusual, because most food cartons are opened and their contents moved somewhere else. A rice box is the plate.
At the same volume, a deeper box with a smaller footprint is harder to eat from: a fork reaches the bottom before it reaches the sides, and the last of the rice ends up pushed around rather than picked up. A shallower box with a wider footprint holds the same portion and eats better, because the whole meal is visible and reachable at once.
The face that matters changes too. A meal box is carried flat and opened flat, so the lid is what the customer looks at, twice: once when it arrives and once as it sits open beside them while they eat. Artwork planned around the sides of a container is planned around the panels nobody in this situation sees.
What this page will not promise
Competitors here promise leak-proofing, oil and moisture resistance, and food that stays hot. None of that is rated on these boards. There is no confirmed performance behind any of it, so the promise is absent instead of softened. An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. Final recyclability depends on the full material and finishing specification and the facilities available locally. Nothing here has specified a coating, so there is no finish working against that. If you add one later for grease or moisture, ask what it does to the recycling answer in the same conversation. That question is settled at specification and cannot be reopened at the bin.

Can you match a size we already buy?
Yes. Bring the box itself and we measure from that, which settles the specification in one step. Working from the number alone leaves the volume to be confirmed later anyway.
Do you make the compartmented version?
Yes, as a die-cut insert sized around the two components so each stays where it was placed. Decide it at specification stage: it changes the die, so it is not something added to a finished box later.
What is the minimum order for chicken and rice box packaging?
Orders start from 100 units. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval.
