Ask four suppliers what a cardboard food box is and the answers do not agree. The first replies with a list of other products. A second sells printed cartons in a handful of shapes. A trade supplier ships export cartons and meat boxes to butchers. A fourth ranks on the term with a site that files food boxes as a category and then says nothing more about food.
The phrase is a shelf label
They are all describing something real, which is the problem. The phrase names a material and a use, and between them those cover most of a food catalogue. It is a heading, and a heading is not a specification.
That matters because it is usually where a buyer starts, and starting there sends them to a page about cardboard when the useful conversation is about the food.
Start from the food
What is being packed, how it leaves the kitchen or the line, and how far it goes. Settle those and the format follows; settle the format and the board follows from that.

An unlaminated paperboard construction may be easier to process through suitable paper-recycling streams than a heavily laminated alternative. Final recyclability depends on the full material and finishing specification and the facilities available locally.

I will say that there were some things about our final product that we were not happy with, such as creasing of the graphics and images were not full bleed on the cover of our boxes like they were supposed to be. ACP UK was not able to fix the problems on the boxes due to our tight timeline, so we ended up with a product that were were a little less than satisfied with. They offered us a discount on our next order. I think their pricing overall was fair and competitive. We may use them on project in the future again if we are able to see an image of the boxes before they go into full production like we were told that they would do last time.

Is printing compulsory?

Available options include paperboard, kraft, corrugated and rigid constructions, with printing and finishing selected around the product and desired appearance.
Is cardboard suitable for chilled or frozen food?

What comes free with an order?
