A salad that sits dressed for twenty minutes in a sealed box is not the same salad that left the kitchen. Leaves wilt and anything crisp softens, and by the time the lid comes off, most of that has already happened.
Keeping the dressing off the leaves until it matters
The fix most kitchens already know: don’t let the dressing touch the salad until the customer is ready to eat it. A compartmented insert holds dressing, toppings or croutons in their own section, separate from the main leaves, so nothing goes soft in transit. This only helps if the dressing is actually packed separately. A pre-dressed salad in a compartmented box gets no benefit from the compartment.
Reducing the risk of a leaking box
Oil-based dressing behaves differently from grease off a fried item, and it can find its way through a seam a solid food never would. Board and coating can be chosen to reduce that risk at the seams and the coating itself, though no box can promise zero leakage regardless of how it is packed or how much dressing goes in. Tell us whether dressing usually travels separately or mixed in, and we can talk through the right specification.
Sizing for a portion, not a plate
A single lunch portion and a shareable family-style box need genuinely different proportions, and a compartment adds its own space requirement on top of the main serving. Tell us roughly how much salad, how many separate sections you want, and we size the box to hold it properly.
The board sitting against the food itself is chosen with that contact in mind. Food-contact material suitability is confirmed for the specific material before production.
Orders start from 100 units. Design support is free. A digital 3D mock-up is free, useful here for confirming the compartment actually fits before the full run is printed. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free. There are no setup fees. Allergen and nutritional labelling stays your business’s responsibility.
Recyclability depends on the full material and finishing specification and the facilities available locally; an unlaminated or lightly coated board may be easier to process than a heavily laminated one.
Hot food is a different job entirely, with a different failure mode. White Takeaway Boxes is the general container for it, and Fried Chicken Takeaway Boxes deals with actual fry grease rather than dressing. The rest of what we make sits under Custom Food Boxes.

Can the dressing be kept separate from the salad?
Yes, with a compartmented insert that holds dressing, toppings or croutons apart from the main leaves. It only helps if the dressing is actually packed in its own section rather than poured over the salad first.
Will the box leak if the dressing is oil-based?
Board and coating can be chosen to reduce that risk at the seams, but no box can guarantee zero leakage regardless of how it is packed. Tell us how the dressing usually travels and we can advise.
What size do I need for one portion versus a sharing box?
That depends on the quantity and how many separate sections you want. Tell us roughly how much salad and whether dressing needs its own space, and we size the box to match.
Can the box have a window to show the salad?
Yes, a die-cut or film window is an option. It solves a different problem from dressing separation and leak risk, so it is worth deciding separately whether visibility matters as much as those two.
What is the minimum order for takeaway salad boxes?
Orders start from 100 units. Standard production takes 6 to 8 business days after approval. UK delivery is free.
